How do I find a residency?

1. I think it’s important to read over my list of questions, and really think about what you want in a residency (it’s like e-harmony, right?). So you might want to start here!

2. Become a semi-expert with what’s going on in your field. For example, if you are interested in making films, then you will want to be up on what’s going on with NAMAC, the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture. Staying tuned to at least one website that maintains information about your particular interest will lead you to important information on grants, opportunities, collaborations, residencies, and much, much more. 3. Sign up for emails. This can be a lot to look through, but once in a while, the perfect email will arrive, making it all worth it. And of course, now you have me. So check this out.

4. Search through various databases for artists (you’ll have to look at a few different pages on the blog).

5. Take advantage of local resources: meet with visiting inter/national artists (this is KEY), get your feet wet by experimenting with new ideas and projects from home, and find out what connections your neighbors have that might get you a recommendation or an introduction somewhere else.
